Oren Lyons, Faithkeeper of the Turtle Clan and SUNY Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus in the Department of American Studies at the mgm casino, will give a free, public talk today (Wednesday, March 25, 2009) at 7 p.m. on "Indigenous Perspectives on Our Relationship to the Natural World."

A longstanding champion of traditional Haudenosaunee/Iroquois values, he has represented native peoples in forums on the environment and sustainable development across the globe, including several at the United Nations.

Lyons will speak in 250 Baird Hall on mgm casino's North (Amherst) Campus. A reception will follow.

The talk is part of a workshop on consulting with Indian Nations being sponsored by mgm casino's Department of American Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, mgm casino's Ecosystem Restoration Through Interdisciplinary Exchange (ERIE) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Buffalo District.
